April 30 - Final Game for Spring Season - HEAT takes GSC Twisters Silver 4-2

Rocky Mount HEAT showed the fruition of a full year of training in this game with a passing attack and playmaking we have been working for.   Less than two minutes into the game, the first goal run started with HEAT taking possession deep in the back.  The ball was passed back and forth from Marissa to Claire up the left side of the field.  Claire took the final kick, which took a lucky bounce off a Twister defender for an own goal.  The great position by Brittany and Megan closing in to finish the ball made the  deflection  a welcome but unnessessary occurance. Great teamwork for the entire length of the field was the norm of the day.

The Twisters answered back with a fast footed score of their own a few minutes later followed by a direct PK score.  Their lead was to be very short lived.

Outstanding HEAT performance never faltered.  Megan gets an award for providing numerous sure footed crosses from the right side through the day.  This added pressure for the Twister defense to contain all the attack fronts presented to them. Kasey provided the tenacity which constantly plagued the Twisters at center-mid.   The list goes on.  At ten minutes into the game, HEAT scored once more to bring the tally  2-2. The effort began with defender Sam taking the ball off a Twister goal kick. Sam passed forward to Marissa, who threaded the ball  through a converging defense to Claire.  Claire hit the net with a powered kick from the eighteen which left no opportunity for the Twisters defense. Ten minutes later the third goal came from a throw in by Kasey to Miller. She passed forward to Claire who two-touched the ball into the net once more.

The rest of the first half,  the HEAT defense had a chance to shine.  Ally made a fine sliding save and several booming punts for this period. Miller, Theresa and Sam proved themselves with containment, deflection, and repossession to deny the Twister offense at every turn with valued support by the midfield.

The second half HEAT strengthed in possesion and shots on goal came from a generous list of players making the Twister defense unable to answer the continual challenges.  One example started with a corner kick by Kasey out to a perfectly positioned Kylie for a shot on goal.  Anoither great piece of teamwork came from a great repossession by Theresa who passed forward to Holly and up to Alex for a great shot on goal effort.  Hannah and Morgan provided great hustle and endured the kind of physicality that the Greensboro team doled out. Megan and Marissa both had several good shots on goal to their credit.

The final HEAT goal of the day came when Kasey, the Repo Lady, hustled the ball to Marissa.  Marissa diagonal passed to Brittany who had been waiting for the net opportunity all day long.  Her efforts were rewarded to bring the final score to 4-2 for the game.

All told this was without doubt our finest game to date.  The enormous size and foot skills of the talented opponent could not balance out the passing attack and speed which HEAT brought to the field.  What a perfect way to end the season.

April 29- HEAT vs Carolina Classic Won 2-0

April 29 - HEAT Scores the  Shut Out vs. CUFC Green 4-0

April 2nd- HEAT  Suffers 3-0 loss to Triangle United Silver.

Triangle United got early momentum with three scores in the first half and HEAT never recouped from that blow.  The girls played with valor but came up short as a team in putting together all the pieces needed to score despite opportunities.  It was a hard day for the team and their families but an opportunity to learn as we go forward.

March 26th - Heat wins the last home game for the season over TFC Navy 3-1.

March 25th - Heat vs. Sandhills Cyclones . Won 2-1

Game day in Rocky Mount turned out to be very cool with blustery winds.    HEAT kept posssesion much of the first ten minutes but Cyclones slid their only score in a with a quick effort that would not be repeated for the remaining play of the game. Their left forward came in with great intensity pulling the HEAT defense to that side in response.  They then made a great diagonal drop to slide the ball right past into the net.   Heat kept on working the field,  challenging the Cyclone goalie for a signifiant shots on goal.   There were a number of fine shots on goal in this game including one particularly good combination from a long diagonal pass by Claire to a Brittany quick kick at Right Forward and another effort started with the fine throwin skills of Kasey into Claire in the box.

The HEAT Goalie, Ally had far fewer challenges to deal with touching the ball for only a handfull of serious attempts, thanks to the excellent defensive play of Sam, Miller, and Theresa.  HEAT stayed collected, saving their highest energy and best focus for the final ten minutes.  Megan scored her HEAT goal with an outstanding run up the right side.   She shot from about the eighteen and powered that ball right through a gaggle of players to the net.  The game had few penalties overall  but late in the day  a Cyclone penalty brought an opportunity from about twenty yards out.  Kasey took the kick,  booting it  over the dark green of a tall Cyclone wall  to the back of the net.  The keeper never stood a chance on that one!  The final score stood 2-1 with HEAT taking their fourth victory of the season.

March 18th - OCSA Coastal Crew Takes the Win Over HEAT 3-0.

After a clean victory sweep last season,  HEAT came up short with the talented Coastal Crew team today.  The Rocky Mount team played hard and showed excellent courage and talent but in the end Crew shut out the HEAT offense for the first time in HEAT team history.   Shutting teams out of the scoreboard is something the Crew is used to this year having allowed only three goals total for the five games played.  Still there were some great HEAT moments to be cherished. The shots taken such as the long lovely strike just over the crossbar from the right side by our fair Hannah are to be congratulated.  There were some great manuevers shown including aggressive headers and traps with Kasey leading the count and Claire, Megan, and Sam making their own contributions. There was the quick sprint goal that came back for being enthusastically but unfortunately offsides.  All of these are great signs of learning going on.  The HEAT will come out stronger and better for it.   Photos in the Gallery

March 11 - Eighteen Game HEAT Winning Streak Ends - Lost 2-4 vs. BSC Blue

Rocky Mount HEAT suffered it's first loss in eighteen games and the first of the current season against the tough BSC Blue.  While the HEAT showed good possession for much of the game , passing well and working the ball, BSC players kept their head in the game and showed quicker response to capitalize on opportunities.  The score was tied 2-2 at the half.  The second half came with final two scores  for BSC Blue which can be attributed to a speed attack which placed tremendous pressure on the defense to respond to.    Over all,  the HEAT made  a number of good strike opportunities, some of which were stopped just short of the net by a talented BSC goalie.  The game was a good one between two well matched teams.  It was filled with action, speed, courage, and frankly could have gone either way on the final tally.  The HEAT will remember this one.

March 4 - Rocky Mount HEAT wins over Carolina Classic 2-1.

The Rocky Mount HEAT played strong in this second game of the day against the Classic with signficant participation by the entire bench.

March 4 - HEAT takes the Fuquay Varina Flames 4-2

February 26 - HEAT vs. Fayetteville Force 1-0

The Rocky Mount HEAT emerged the victor after a particularly physical game against the Fayetteville Force 1-0.  The game went scoreless through the entire first half with both teams jockeying for proper position awaiting the openings that never quite came up.  There were a number of excellent shots on goal but strong defense on both sides kept the score low.   Keeper Ally had a number of gutsey saves for this game as shown in the photo at left to keep the Force shutout of the scoreboard.

The opening moments of the second half brought the only score of the day with Megan making a superb solo run up the left side through the opposition to put it in the net. Claire and Kasey both kept the Force defense hopping trying to keep their raw energy contained.  Marissa had two left footed shots on goal deflected by an able Force keeper and the rotating midfield played strong to retain posssesion for the majority of the game.

All told it was a worthy game played in brisk winds and bright sunshine.  It was fine way to start the season.
