Wachovia Seaside Soccer Classic Tournament Silver Finalists

The Rocky Mount HEAT took home a Silver Finalist trophy during the Wachovia Seaside Soccer Classic in Wilmington on May 21-22.  The team showed fine strength in the games Saturday, beating both CASL Jaguars 5-0 and WS Twins Royal 3-0.  The challenges kept on coming.  Sunday morning rose with several of our HEAT players incapacitated by stomach flu and several more having distinct early symptoms.  The playing field was even less forgiving.  During the third game, HEAT beat CH Thunder 6-1 but suffered several painful injuries during the course of play.  The championship game came down to HEAT versus the NTSC Stokes SPIRIT.  SPIRIT showed up with a talented, mature team and did not let up for a moment.  HEAT players played on with determination through the heat, the injuries, and the sideline nausea.  The substitution selections were made on a moment by moment basis of the least physically challenged.  It was a true testament of HEAT courage...and we still took home the silver.  We can look forward to a rematch some time in the future. It will be some fine soccer to watch. Go HEAT!
